Our Story

WHO WE ARE - The Mulberry Patch is a veteran-, woman- and minority-owned small business based in the Shenandoah Valley, VA. Born of a vision to simplify my own home by creating beautiful moments out of mundane tasks (such as dishes or laundry) and on a quest to eliminate avoidable toxins from my family’s day-to-day, I began a beautiful journey toward mindful home-keeping and self-sufficient homesteading. Before I knew it, I was supplying my family with many of our basic hygienic and dietary needs, had learned the traditional arts of soap and candle making, found myself raising chickens and lambs and growing a garden, and (quite accidentally) had also created an online following... which eventually became the start of a costumer base!

WHAT WE DO - As a former professional musician and teacher-turned-herbalist entrepreneur, the love of beauty and of enriching the lives of others is central to my very being. I strive to create the healthiest and most effective products I can, while teaching others the importance of using non-toxic alternatives to the things we use everyday. I work hard to help others realize those brief, uncluttered moments of thoughtfulness that hold the beauty of everyday life; the soft flicker of a candle over dinner, the pleasing warmth of aromatherapy during a shower, the delicious scent of a steeping cup of tea. Many things that we tend to rush through can be so beautiful if we allow ourselves to stop and pause, using such moments as a time of reflection and thankfulness.

OUR HOPE FOR YOU - I hope that you walk away with more than just a bar of soap or beeswax candle; that you take with you the start of a healthier, more mindful home full of joy, peace and beauty. That my hand-crafted items will take center-stage on your bathroom sink, kitchen table, or your nightstand as a reminder of the loveliness of simple living. That fewer (but better) mindfully crafted, non-toxic alternatives would infuse your home with graceful moments that become habits, and that habits then become a lifestyle.

Wife for a decade, home-school mom of four, Air Force veteran, professional musician turned herbalist. Never bored. Now, a holistic entrepreneur hoping to encourage and inspire others to make small changes towards simpler routines, more mindful living, and healthier bodies and homes.

Lucy - لؤلؤة (Lulua)

Brought over from the deserts of Jordan in a high-risk operation puppy rescue by her Soldier daddy after a deployment. Made a terrible house dog. Became the worlds best farm security and has been flawlessly protecting our flocks for over 6 years.

Purchased to make fiber, but completely missed the assignment. His best friends are Sherman, the newest LGD, who he does the daily farm rounds with, and a lovely old Barred Rock (pictured) whom he gives piggy-back rides. Hank makes his way onto the front porch most days for a nose scratch and a treat.

Trainees

Sherman and Tank

Angolian-Pyreness mixes who have been training under the direction of Lucy in the ways of the LGD. Sherman is talented in thought and strategy and Tank is the brute force behind the operation. Together, these two brothers will deter the fox, chase away the hawk, defend and protect, come rain or come shine. Hooha!
